Jon Marshall : photos : Bio : While attending college I began working for the US Forest Service fighting fires. After graduating from the University of Montana in 2000 with a Business Degree focusing on Financial Management I moved to Utah to "ski bum" for a winter. As an avid backcountry skier with an interest in snow safety and avalanche control I knew that I wanted to work in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and landed a job with the Snowbird Ski Patrol my first season there. I soon realized that patroling during the winter and fighting fires during the summer provided plenty of time in between seasons to travel and fell in love with the seasonal lifestyle. At about the same time I began documenting all of these adventures and have amassed a collection of thousands of images. I have photographed everything from wildfires in remote Alaska to coffee plantations in Central America. I am currently employed with the Montana Smokejumpers from May through September, work full time as a Backcountry Ski guide for Park City Powder Cats, and part time for the Snowbird Ski Patrol from December through April and continue to capture images of our world year round. Sarah, Timber and I. If only Sonny the cat were a hiker...

For the past eight years I've been working for the Forest Service fighting forest fires throughout the west. I've been working with the Missoula Smokejumpers in Montana for the past four years. During the winter I've been living in Utah and guiding for Park City Powder Cats for the past few years, and before that ski patrolling for Snowbird. This winter will be my first away from that snowy lifestyle. This year I'll be living in Portland, OR with my beautiful new wife, Sarah, and focusing my energy on my photography.

I started taking my photography seriously in 2000 when I started all of these adventures. I wanted a visual journal of everything and everywhere I was lucky enough to explore and thats when my passion for photography was born. Because of the seasonal lifestyle I've lead I've been able to travel every spring and fall and focus on photography.
